Cadence Chairman Ray Bingham Addresses Stanford University Law School Directors' College; Bay Area Business Leader Speaks on Corporate Governance Issues
SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—June 21, 2004—
Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN) announced that
Chairman of the Board Ray Bingham will speak today on corporate
governance at Stanford University Law School's Directors' College. He
joins a prestigious panel of experts including Simon Lorne, former SEC
general counsel, now with Millennium Partners; Catherine Kinney,
president and co-chief operating officer of the NYSE; Jim Ukropina,
co-author of Handbook for Corporate Officers and attorney with the law
firm O'Melveny & Meyers; and Dr. Eric E. Schmidt, Chairman of the
Executive Committee and CEO at Google.
Governance has become an increasingly relevant and often hotly
debated topic in corporate America in the wake of a number of scandals
involving companies such as Enron, Tyco International and WorldCom.
Government reforms such as Sarbanes-Oxley, distrust of investors and
media focus has led companies to re-evaluate the role and
responsibilities of Boards in a public company.
Each speaker will share insight and experiences from their unique
perspective. Today's session at Stanford seeks to provide the audience
with concrete examples of good governance practices that can be
implemented at their companies.
Ray Bingham was named Chairman of the Board of Cadence Design
Systems, Inc. in May 2004. Bingham joined Cadence in 1993 and was
executive vice president and chief financial officer until being
appointed president and CEO in 1999. Bingham was instrumental in
transforming Cadence from a $369 million supplier of electronic design
automation tools to $1.1 billion in 2003.
Currently, Bingham serves as Vice Chair (formerly Chairman) of the
Board of the Electronic Design Automation Consortium (EDAC), an
association consisting of over 100 EDA companies. Bingham is also a
member of the Board of Directors at KLA-Tencor, Onyx Software, and
Oracle Corporation.
Bingham received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from
Weber State University and holds a Master's degree in Business
Administration from the Harvard Business School.
